4.7 million investors in Saudi stocks with leap in women’s trading

A record high of women’s trading in the Saudi Stock Exchange.

The number of individual investors in the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) at the end of the third quarter of 2019, about 4.767 million investors, the highest level since the third quarter 2015, owning 10.291 million portfolios by the end of the period.

The number of investors rose 1.0% to 48,308, compared to 4.671 million at the end of the same period in 2018, based on data of Tadawul and the Capital Market Authority (CMA).

Males constitute the highest percentage of the total number of individual investors by the end of the period, by 78.7%, while the number of females constituted 21.3%.

The number of female investors rose to its highest level since the beginning of the announcement of the number of investors at the end of the second quarter of 2013 – about seven years – to reach 1.016 million investors, a growth of 1.3%.

The number of male investors in the stock market rose to about 3.75 million investors, a growth of 0.9% during the year.

As for portfolios, the number of 10.291 million portfolios rose to its highest level compared to 9.751 million portfolios at the end of the same period in 2018, registering a growth of 5.5% equivalent to about 539.806 thousand portfolios.

When the number of portfolios held by individual investors is distributed to their number, it is clear that the average holdings of each individual investor is about 2.16 portfolios compared to 2.07 portfolios by the end of the third quarter 2018 and compared to 1.93 portfolios by the end of the second quarter of 2019.

The market capitalization of the issued shares in the Saudi market at the end of the third quarter of 2019 amounted to about SAR1.908tn compared to SAR1.899tn at the end of the same period in 2018, registering a growth of 0.47%.

The number of listed companies, in addition to real estate funds, rose to 193 by the end of the third quarter of 2019 compared to 188 companies and funds for the corresponding period last year.

The main market index reached 8091.76 points compared to 7,999.54 points at the end of the third quarter 2018, registering a growth of 1.15%.
