The General Directorate of Passports in Saudi Arabia opened onThursday the first halls to facilitate procedures for obtaining passports forwomen in Riyadh.

The General Directorate of Passports in Saudi Arabia, Major GeneralSuliman Al-Yahya, said that this step of the General Directorate of Passports inthe Riyadh region, comes as a continuation of the strategy currently in placeto distribute its services, by opening new outlets to serve the citizen andresident easily, to reach all segments of society, and to serve them asrequired.

The General Directorate of Passports revealed that there are 9,000 Saudiwomen obtained passports through the "Absher" electronic system,after the decision, issued last August, to amend the documents of travel andcivil status, which gives women the right to obtain the passport itself, while5,000 Saudi women got the passport through the paper submission in Passportoffices in various Saudi cities.
