Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria arrived home on Sunday to a hero's welcome from a huge crowd of joyful supporters and a "water salute" for their plane at Algiers airport.

"One, two, three, viva Algeria!" tens of thousands of flag-waving fans lining the road from the airport chanted as the players went on a victory parade through the capital in an open-top bus.

Algeria wonthe Africa Cup of Nations for the second time on Friday when a freak second-minutegoal by Baghdad Bounedjah gave them a 1-0 win over gallant Senegal in thefinal.

Bounedjahstunned the Lions of Teranga with a shot which took a wicked deflection offSalif Sane and looped over the bewildered goalkeeper Alfred Gomis and into thenet.

The players, with winner's medals around their necks and captain Ryad Mahrez hoisting the cup in the air, were given a red carpet welcome at the airport and greeted by Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui.
