By Riyadh season, tourism spending to hit record highs

The number of flights coming to Saudi Arabia during theperiod between January and August rose 11% in 2019 compared to last year, witha total expenditure of SAR77.3bn and an increase of 12% from 2018. Whiledomestic tourism trips rose 3.4% during the same period (January-August), therate of domestic tourism spending amounted to SAR33.8bn, with an increase of7.8%, according to the Tourism Information and Research Center (MAS) ofthe Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH)

MAS revealed in early October, through Twitter, thatthe incoming flights to Riyadh from outside Saudi Arabia in 2018 amounted to 2million trips with a total spending exceeded SAR12bn, while domestic flights tothe same destination amounted to 4.3 million trips with a total spendingexceeded SAR6bn.

According to the sources of indicators provided by MAS,the month of August was the most active tourist months of the year to becomethe most months in the incoming and domestic tourism trips, the highest monthsin the rate of tourism spending.

These figures are expected to break new records in the nexttwo months as the Riyadh season launches in the capital, Riyadh from October 11to December 15.
