‘Inscription of Al Sadu weaving on UNESCO’s list another step toward achieving Vision 2030 goals’

The inscription of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait's traditional weaving of Al Sadu on the Intangible Heritage list is another step toward achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030; particularly in the field of culture; said Princess Haifa Bint Abdulaziz Al-Muqrin; Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to UNESCO, on Friday.

Lauding the generous support of the leadership; Princess Haifa congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman; and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, and Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan on the remarkable achievement.

She also said that the achievement reflects the keenness of the leadership in the national heritage,; their concern for the national cultural identity, and the importance of highlighting it regionally and globally.

Princess Haifa also highlighted the efforts of a joint national tea; led by the Ministry of Culture, the National Committee for Education; Science and Culture, the permanent Saudi delegation to UNESCO; and the Saudi Society for Heritage Preservation.

It is noteworthy that Al Sadu weaving is markedly the eighth cultural element that the Kingdom has succeeded in promoting it at UNESCO; as part of its efforts to document the intangible national heritage and to draw the local and international attention towards it in a way that ensures its protection and sustainability across generations.

Al Sadu weaving is one of the creative traditional craftsmanship practiced by the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula since ancient times; which has become one of the most important aspects and images of the human heritage in the Kingdom with its various designs; decorations, and colors.

As an expression of this cultural importance, Al Sadu was used in the design of the logo of the recently; held G20 summit hosted by Saudi Arabia this year.
