President of Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) Eng. Saad bin Abdulaziz Al-Khalb inaugurated today the arrival of 10 yard cranes and two giant maritime cranes which are designed in accordance with the latest technologies and international specifications and can be operated remotely to handle containers and provide logistical services with high operational efficiency at Jeddah Islamic Port.

This comes within the framework of the concession contract that was signed between MAWANI and the leading regional port operator the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) to develop and operate the container terminals at the Jeddah Islamic Port.

This contributes to doubling of the company's capacity to reach 5.2 million standard containers annually by 2023.

President of MAWANI said that the inauguration of these modern and advanced cranes comes as an extension of the unprecedented growth and qualitative shift that the port sector is witnessing, which will also contribute to raising the rates of handling and providing the highest logistical services in Jeddah Islamic Port.

He added that "we are moving forward at an accelerated pace towards achieving the aspiration of the leadership to reform the work environment, develop services and contribute to the achievement of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by transforming Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub connecting the three continents."

The last two months (July and August) were a milestone in the history of records of the numbers of containers handled by RSGT at the level of Saudi Arabia, as it handled 264,546 standard containers in August, breaking July's record by 4%.
