Kuwait's Minister of Interior Anas al-Saleh announced on Thursday an urgent and swift investigation; into the 2018 recordings which surfaced during the minister's parliamentary grilling session this week.
However; the grilling ended with 10 MPs presenting a no-confidence motion; against al-Saleh which will be subject to voting on August 26.
To summarize; the Interior Ministry, under al-Saleh, is accused of spying on citizens.
As a result ; Al-Saleh decided to suspend the Director General of State Security; the former director of the money laundering department, and a number of officers.
With this in mind; Kuwait witnessed a wave of public rage; after reavealing leaked recordings on social media revealed that personal accounts of prominent public figures; among them lawmakers and journalists.
"I have directed an urgent investigation; the results appearing within 48 hours, regarding the 2018 recordings;" al-Saleh additionally said, adding that spying on citizens' accounts is gravely unconstitutional.
On his Twitter account, Al-Saleh also indicated that he had taken all measures to form investigation committees; and the probe was relayed to the Audit Bureau, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Investigation Unit; and finally the Public Prosecution.
"The government sent the recordings to the National Assembly and voted with the request; in order to form a parliamentary investigation committee into the matter; and to announce all of this with transparency;" al-Saleh noted.
"As for the recent leaked recordings, which date back to the year 2018, they took action immediately; after I became aware of them recently;" he added.
"We are awaiting the final results in the coming hours regarding the eavesdropping, which is a totally unacceptable behavior;" he concluded.
Similarly; Kuwait's Public Prosecutor Muhammad Rashid Al-Duaij revealed that some suspicious accounts on social media are responsible for posting; and circulating false rumors and news that harm state institutions.
