Confirming that no one is bigger than his country, Lebanon PM Saad Al-Hariri resigns after 13-day protests.
Lebanon PM Saad Al-Hariri announced on Tuesday evening hisresignation from the premiership after reaching a "dead end" in light of the nationwideprotests nearly two weeks ago.
Al-Hariri said in a televised speech: "I put my government's resignationat the disposal of Lebanon's President Michel Aoun".
Al-Hariri called on all Lebanese to protect civil peace asunprecedented nationwide anti-government protests continue.
"For 13 days the Lebanese people have waited for a decision for apolitical solution that stops the deterioration (of the economy), and I havetried, during this period, to find a way out, through which to listen to thevoice of the people," Al-Hariri said in his speech.
Al-Hariri added that the resignation comes in response to manyLebanese who got out to the streets.
Earlier in the day, two official sources told Reuters that Al-Haririwas heading towards resignation and could announce it today or tomorrow, assupporters of Hezbollah and Amal movement attacked protesters at a roadblock inBeirut yesterday and dismantled their tents, prompting police to intervene,chanting slogans in support of Hezbollah Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallahand Lebanese Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, head of Amal Movement.
It began when Hezbollah and Amal movement supporters made their wayinto the protest camp on the Ring Bridge in central Beirut and tried to getprotesters to open the way.
