Russian President, Vladimir Putin will visit Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates this week, Putin will visit Saudi Arabia on Monday, October 14th and the UAE on Tuesday 15th, the Russian president’s assistant, Yuri Ushakov announced, according to Russian news agencies.
Ushakov added that about 30 documents, including economic and trade agreements, are being prepared for signing during Putin’s visit to Saudi Arabia. According to the director of the Russian direct investment fund, the fund will sign agreements of about $2bn during the visit.
The two leaders will discuss cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The talks will cover prospects of cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, industry, military-technical cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges, Ushakov said.
They will also exchange views on pressing international issues with a focus on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, particularly in Syria, the Gulf and Yemen and the settlement of the Palestinian issue.
The Russian president last visited Saudi Arabia in February 2007, 12 years ago, and the Saudi monarch visited Russia in 2017, which was then described as historic.
Ushakov noted that President Putin and King Salman communicate on a regular basis by phone, and that Putin regularly discusses with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman issues of the region.
On the program of the Russian president’s visit to Saudi Arabia, Ushakov said that he will start on Monday with a reception ceremony with the Saudi king, after which a luncheon will be held in honor of President Putin, and then talks between President Putin and King Salman, followed by the signing of a set of mutual agreements.
Putin will also take part in a meeting of the Russian-Saudi Economic Council chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. Afterwards, Putin will meet with the crown prince.
