International Affairs, the magazine of American international affairs, has named Ambassador Rima bint Bandar and Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah among the “Top 150 Most Powerful Women in Washington”, becoming the only Arab women on the list for this year.
The magazine’s list for 2019 included a number of notable women, including Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives, Ivanka Trump, daughter and advisor to US President, and Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president in the administration of U.S. president Donald Trump.
The two women are among the 150 “most influential women in the region in governance, business, law, education, media, non-profit organizations and the arts,” the magazine said.
Princess Rima bint Bandar bin Sultan, born in 1975, was appointed as Saudi Ambassador to the United States with the rank of minister on February 23, 2019, to be the first woman to serve as ambassador in her country’s history.
Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah, a former journalist known for her humanitarian work, was appointed by UNHCR as a Goodwill Ambassador in 2015.
