Saudi Arabia condemned Iran for violating Iraq's sovereignty. After it carried out missile attacks against bases housing American forces in the country.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir urged Wednesday all parties to exercise restraint. They als should ensure that the situation does not escalate further. This is all to safeguard the security and stability of Iraq and the region.

Saudi Arabia is closely watching the situation in Iraq to make sure it does not slip into war, he said in a tweet.

The Kingdom will also stand by Iraq to help it overcome all threats. So its people can live in prosperity and security, he stressed.

Iran carried out its missile strike in retaliation to Washington's killing of its top military commander, Soleimani, two weeks ago. No casualties were reported in the attack that stoked fears of the eruption of a new war in the region. The United States has since imposed new sanctions against Tehran.
