The recent Houthi escalation in Yemen proves the militias' lack of seriousness in seeking a political solution, said Saudi Arabia's FM Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The FM asserted that it is very necessary to support humanitarian efforts in Yemen to end the people's suffering.
Farhan was speaking at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Berlin on Friday. He described the relations between the two countries as historical and strong.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed bilateral relations and the region's situation. In addition to recent developments in Yemen and Libya. They also highlighted the Iranian interventions in Middle East, particularly in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
Farhan pointed to the recent negative developments, including Houthis' missile attacks on civilian cities and their continuous military escalation. Which indicates they are not serious about seeking a political solution to this crisis.
"We therefore encourage all international actors to stress the importance of supporting the coalition. Besides, the legitimate Yemeni government's efforts to find a political solution," Farhan said.
Prince Faisal commended the international community's position on Houthis' actions in preventing aid from reaching Yemeni ports.
He explained to Maas the Kingdom's position on the importance of continuing to pressure Iran. So, it could head to a peaceful direction and avoids intervening in the affairs of its neighbors.
The two officials also discussed the situation in Libya and Farhan lauded the German efforts in supporting the Berlin Conference. He explained Saudi concerns about Turkey sending Syrian fighters to northern Libya. As it would fuel the conflict and contribute to the instability in the country.
"We will continue to support all efforts that seek a peaceful solution … to end that suffering."
For his part, the German FM expressed his concern about the escalating violence in Yemen, urging Houthis to end it and to return to dialogue and seek a political solution under the supervision of the UN.
Maas added that Houthis keep on obstructing humanitarian aid, which concerns Germany, especially that it affects the people in need of relief.
On Iran, Maas said Germany was also concerned regarding Iranian violations through its nuclear program, urging parties to focus on negotiations and dialogue.
The German FM addressed the Libyan issue, admitting the Libyan-Libyan military committee in Geneva has faced several difficulties.
He said that the process is difficult and the path is long, stressing the importance of Saudi Arabia's support for Germany's efforts in this regard and highlighting its vital role in dealing with crises in the region.
