The Saudi government renewed on Tuesday its support for the declaration of a ceasefire in Libya; while strongly condemning the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen for continuing to fire armed drones and ballistic missiles at the Kingdom.
Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the virtual cabinet meeting.
He briefed the ministers on the telephone calls he held with Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said; and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
The cabinet reviewed the latest local and international developments related to the coronavirus pandemic. It noted that recoveries in the Kingdom were on the rise, while the outbreak was being curbed. It hoped that the new Islamic year will bring about stability and security; throughout the Arab and Islamic nations and entire world.
The ministers also addressed preparations for the new academic year in the Kingdom amid the pandemic.
On Arab developments, they welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Libya's Presidential Council and east-based parliament. It stressed the need to kick off internal political dialogue; prioritizing Libya's national interest above all else, paves the way for a permanent solution; safeguarding the security and stability of the fraternal Libyan people and thwarts foreign meddling that jeopardizes regional security.
On Yemen, the cabinet also slammed the Houthis for deliberately launching armed drones and ballistic missiles at residential areas in the Kingdom. It condemned the attacks as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
