Saudi Arabia, UAE provide a joint package of assistance to Sudan

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have announced Sunday that the two sides provide a joint package of assistance worth USD 3 billion to Sudan.

The initiative will see the deposit of USD 500 million into Sudan’s central bank to strengthen the country’s liquidity to ease the pressure on the Sudanese pound and achieve more stability in the exchange rate.

The remaining amount will be dedicated to support the people of Sudan, across food, medicines, and fuel derivatives.

Since Bashir was ousted on April 11 by the army in response to months of mass street protests, the military rulers have resisted calls to transfer power to a civilian body.
