Supporting Saudi products in international markets, the Saudi Export Development Authority (SEDA) participates in the Hong Kong Food Expo 2019, which is held in Hong Kong from 16 to 20 August 2019.

This participation is part of the ongoing efforts of SEDA to support Saudi products in international markets, open doors for exporting the national goods, and contribute to the reservation of its international market share in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and its aims to raise the proportion of non-oil exports from 16% to 50% in order to meet the national aspirations towards diversifying sources of income for the national economy.

The number of companies participating under the umbrella of the Saudi pavilion reached 12 national companies specialized in the field of food.

TheHong Kong Food Expo is a yearly specialized exhibition held at the Hong Kong Conferenceand Exhibition Center. This year, more than 1,500 exhibitors from around theworld gather together.

The Expo brings together retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers adding to the general public. The Expo is held in conjunction with the Hong Kong International Tea Fair, the International Conference and Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products (ICMCM), and Hong Kong Lifestyle Showcase.

Saudi Exports

Theparticipation of SEDA in the exhibition reflects what the Kingdom'sexports achieved in the field of foods. The food products sector in 2018 rankedfourth in the list of major non-oil exporting industries, with a total exportof SAR13.5bn. The dairy products sector ranked first in the sub-sectors withexports amounting to SAR4bn, followed by the bakery and confectionery sectorwith exports amounting to SAR2.2bn, while grain exports amounted to SAR578mnriyals, and fruits and vegetables sector valued at SAR1.2bn for 2018.

Gulf and neighboring Arab markets are the largest importers of food products from Saudi Arabia, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, and Iraq, with a combined share of 75% of total Saudi food exports.

Importance of Saudi Participation in International Exhibitions

It is noteworthy that SEDA is keen to enhance the appearance of Saudi products to the target groups by participating in international exhibitions; because the pavilion of the Kingdom in international exhibitions is an appropriate platform to promote the products of national enterprises and highlight its competitive quality internationally; as participating in international exhibitions ensures direct communication with customers, conducting business deals, knowing competitors in the field, and enhancing the image of the company participating in foreign markets, thus contributing to the opening of export doors for national goods.
