Riyadhmunicipality has startedto disinfect markets and supermarkets in an effort to ensure the safety ofshoppers during the coronavirus pandemic. This latest precautioncomplements the work being carried out by government agencies to limit thespread of the disease.

In addition, handsanitizers have been provided for customers to use, and workers have beensupplied with thermometers to help them identify any sign of a fever, which isa common symptom of the virus. Signs and posters are also in place to raiseawareness of the directives issued by the authorities and the steps that can betaken to reduce the risk of infection, including the proper way to wash andsterilize hands.

The municipalityhas also intensified its efforts to monitor establishments to ensure they areadhering to precautionary closures. Officials have so far made 7,793supervisory visits, imposing maximum penalties on those found to be violatingthe rules and referring them to government agencies for further deterrentmeasures.

Officialspreviously announced that the production of sterilizers has been steppedup, and they will be distributed for free at more than 25 locations in thecity. They said they are also coordinating with charities to ensure supplies ofdisinfectants reach vulnerable people who are particularly at risk from thevirus.
