Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League for Political Affairs, Ambassador Khalid Al-Habas, has highlighted the importance of invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to hold an emergency Arab summit.
He also pointed to the Saudi leadership’s awareness of the situation in the Gulf region and peace, security and stability in the Arab region.
“The emergency Arab summit to be hosted in Makkah, aims at enhancing the solidarity of Arab countries, in addition to consultation, coordination and exchange of views among Arab leaders regarding the recent escalation in the Gulf region because of the two attacks against two oil tankers in the Gulf off the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and the attack on two oil pumps in Saudi Arabia.” Ambassador Al-Habas was quoted as saying on the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
He expected that the level of representation at the Arab extraordinary summit will be high, as was the case at the Arab Summit held in Dhahran last year.
He pointed to the economic and strategic importance of the Gulf region, making it at the heart of the global security, stressing that the security of the Gulf region is a key part of the Arab security system.
