AssistantSecretary General of the Arab League for Political Affairs, Ambassador KhalidAl-Habas, has highlighted the importance of invitation of the Custodian of theTwo Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to hold an emergency Arabsummit.
He alsopointed to the Saudi leadership's awareness of the situation in the Gulf regionand peace, security and stability in the Arab region.
"Theemergency Arab summit to be hosted in Makkah, aims at enhancing the solidarityof Arab countries, in addition to consultation, coordination and exchange ofviews among Arab leaders regarding the recent escalation in the Gulf regionbecause of the two attacks against two oil tankers in the Gulf off the port ofFujairah in the United Arab Emirates and the attack on two oil pumps in SaudiArabia." Ambassador Al-Habas was quoted as saying on the Saudi Press Agency(SPA).
He expectedthat the level of representation at the Arab extraordinary summit will be high,as was the case at the Arab Summit held in Dhahran last year.
He pointedto the economic and strategic importance of the Gulf region, making it at theheart of the global security, stressing that the security of the Gulf region isa key part of the Arab security system.
