Confirming its adherence to the position of the European Union, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said on Saturday that his country would not move its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem during a press conference in Prague.
The Palestinian agency quoted Babis as saying: "The Czech Republic will not move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Our government is committed to the position of the European Union and the relevant UN resolutions. No one in Europe wants to move its embassy. The Czech Republic will not be the first."
He added: "Israel is a long-term ally of the Czech Republic, and there are special relations between us, and there are current trends to distinguish those relations… But the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, in short, there are agreements in the United Nations in this regard (Jerusalem), we have to stick to them.
The statements of the Czech Prime Minister, are the latest in the positions of the Czech Republic, on its position refusing to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem.
The Times of Israel, in a report published earlier this May, reported a state of frustration that controls a large number of political circles in Israel because of the failure to move foreign embassies to Jerusalem.
The newspaper said: "one year after the movement of the US Embassy, the diplomatic flow has not been achieved yet, and the efforts of the Israeli Foreign Ministry to attract foreign embassies to Jerusalem did not work, especially as many countries of the world refused to move embassies to Jerusalem for fear of Arab reaction," it also pointed out that the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised, during the celebration of the movement of the US Embassy in May, with a preferential treatment based on the principle of "First come, first served" for the first ten countries to open their embassies in Jerusalem, but no one moved to Jerusalem, and almost all embassies remained in Tel Aviv.
