Japan and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said in a joint statement on Tuesday that the Summer Olympics, which was scheduled for Tokyo this year, are to be postponed due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
"In the present circumstancesand based on the information provided by the WHO today, IOC President ThomasBach and Prime Minister of Japan Abe Shinzo have concluded that the Games ofthe XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but notlater than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybodyinvolved in the Olympic Games and the international community", thestatement said.
