WHO Calls on G20 Members to Follow the lead of Saudi Arabia

WHO praised Saudi Arabia for the financial aid it granted to help international fight against the novel coronavirus.

Director-General of WHO Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus extended his appreciation for King Salman Al Saud and the current president of the G20; for his contribution of $50mn to support the organization in its battle against COVID-19.

"I express my great gratitude to King Salman and to the Saudi people for their great generosity by donating $500mn. This is in response to plan to combat the Coronavirus; hoping the rest of the G20 members to follow King Salman step," said Adhanom.

For his part, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Twitter on Friday that the Saudi contribution is part of the Kingdom's keenness on enhancing international cooperation during the current circumstances.

Also, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen said the Saudi aid to support international efforts in fighting the pandemic comes within the international responsibility being assuming by the Kingdom's government. This is also under the leadership of King Salman and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince.

"As the President of G20 for 2020, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comes at the forefront of countries leading international solidarity as well as cooperation to address this pandemic, citing its $10 million financial support to the World Health Organization" he noted.
